Military Capability

How important is it for country to maintain an advanced level of military capability

Maintaining an advanced level of military capability plays an integral part in ensuring that defense forces are able to successfully play their part in guaranteeing the security of their countries. In my opinion the Indonesian Defense Forces (IDF) considers highly sophisticated resources essential for decreasing casualties as well as increasing the flexibility of its personnel. However, the cost of maintaining a high standard of military capability is a challenge and the defense leadership is aware of the escalating cost involved.
The IDF recognizes the importance of maintaining modern resources available for its personnel to ensure the member of casualties are at the lowest possible level. During patrolling, military personnel can search for Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) by using the Theodor robot. Defense can purchase Unmanned Aerial Vehicles which can identify movement overlarge areas. To extend the soldier’s senses, they can use “Insect” robots.
Moreover, in today’s complex war environment advanced skill development in such areas as sniper and bomb disposal training create greater flexibility for personnel deployment. The IDF recognizes that heavy artillery is not as effective as soldiers who are trained in quick responses handling, using small arms and working in small teams.
Nevertheless, the cost of ensuring the most up to date resources are delivered to all services is challenging for the IDF. Current military capability in such areas as advanced equipment and highly-skilled personnel requires sufficient expenditure. Purchasing the necessary sophisticated equipment is expensive; consequently, the IDF is investigating the possibility of increasing its number of reservists to overcome the cost factor.
In conclusion, improving defense capability is inextricably linked to an advanced level of military resources. If the IDF is to ensure its armed forces are ready for any crisis, a highly skilled force and modern technology are essential. The amount of money spent on funding should be seen as a well spent resource.

Women Forces

Discuss the Roles of Women in Defence Forces

Women in defense forces play an integral part in conducting the tasks of security successfully. In my opinion the Indonesian Defense considers the existence of service women essential for the professional occupation of instructors or teachers as well as increasing the possibility for more soldiers to be deployed in combat zones. However, in the case of women’s maternity leave, the cost can be a problem.
The IDF recognizes the importance of recruiting female personnel to ensure professional standards are at the highest possible level. In all the 3 services after military personnel have completed basic training, there are further occupations open for female soldiers. If they come in as military instructors, they are able to teach their subjects in military training schools. They have equal opportunities with further education in order to achieve a better military career.
In addition, in today’s complex war environment the existence of women personnel create greater possibilities for more soldiers to be deployed to combat zones. The IDF realizes that the tasks of female personnel are effective in managing the administrative support positions so that male soldiers are able to be deployed to combat duties. Since the non-combat roles have been already handled, the IDF can send more military troops in front line positions.
Nevertheless, if the married women in defense forces take on leave after having a baby, the cost of employing another member is expensive for the IDF. They are off-duty for about three months, so it means the IDF should increase its budget to intact pay two people. Consequently, the IDF has found it different to overcome the cost factor.
In conclusion, the Indonesian Defense Forces acknowledge the challenge of employing women in the armed forces. The IDF recognizes that if it is to succeed in strengthening the Armed Forces, roles of service women are essential. On the other hand, the amount of money spent on employing another person by of their leaving the service to have children should be seen as the major drawback for defense.

Border Security

Discuss the role border security plays in enhancing national security

Border security plays an important role in enhancing national security. In my opinion, border security should be maintained in order to counter terrorism as well as to block asylum seekers and drug smugglers entering Indonesia. However, the expense of maintaining border security is at times costly.
The Indonesian government recognizes that improving border security can be useful in countering terrorists. As Indonesia can identify is such an archipelagic country, there are some areas that should be controlled by highly skilled personnel. They are equipped with some sophisticated equipment, such as bomb detectors, so they can identify some intruders coming to Indonesia.
In addition, the Indonesian Defense realizes that it should increase border security to control many illegal refugees. People from other countries, such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam, consider is a good stepping stone to reach Australia. So, Indonesian Defense in cooperation with Australian Defense try to work together to solve the problem.
Furthermore, the Indonesian Defense Forces acknowledge that borders should be secured to deter drug smuggling. They think that Indonesia is a good place to make drug transactions. The drug smugglers also can find a lot of heroin in certain areas in Indonesia, such as Aceh, which has borders with other neighboring countries. So, Indonesian Navy uses their ships and submarines to patrol the coastline in order to make Indonesia safe from drug smuggling.
Nevertheless, the cost of improving border security is a concern for the Indonesian Government. It will spend a lot of money to purchase some highly advanced facilities and equip Defense personnel with modern weaponry, so the Indonesian government has tried to find other financial resources to fund border security.
In conclusion, the Indonesian Government has found some challenges in controlling border security. If it is to succeed in the program, cooperation with other neighboring countries is essential. On the other hand, the cost is seen as a concern for the government.

Recycling

Compare and Contrast Public Awareness of Recycling in Australia and in your Country

Recycling involves processing used materials into new products. Australia and Indonesia have some differences in their awareness of recycling, such as the separation of garbage and the use of recycled water. However, there is a similarity in campaigning for energy-saving products.
One obvious difference is how to separate the rubbish. As Australia is a developed country, it has good recycling mechanisms. People have awareness of using recycling wheelie bins in front of their houses which separate glass products, cans, plastics, paper, cardboard and other recyclable items from the rest of the rubbish. Whereas Indonesians put their garbage in one recycling bin, then rubbish collectors will take and separate the garbage which will be recycled by commercial companies.
Another area of difference in recycling initiatives between Australia and Indonesia is the use of rain water. The Australian government has built some big dams to intercept and retain precipitation. It can be used as distilled water and it is very important for human life. On the other hand, Indonesian people, especially farmers, use rain water to irrigate their farms by building small catchments or reservoirs.
Nevertheless, both Australia and Indonesia are similar in campaigning for energy-saving resources. The Australian government has always emphasized the importance of sustainable energy. Last month, all cities in Australia, such as Melbourne and Sydney, plunged into darkness as a symbolic energy-saving exercise. As well, people in Indonesia, especially after working hours, regularly cut their electricity as part of “Earth Hour”.
In conclusion, Australia and Indonesia are different in recycling awareness. The two countries differ in some aspects of recycling garbage and water. In spite of their difference, both of them contribute a lot toward global energy-saving initiatives. It will be interesting to see the result of their efforts in the future.
